Power Moves: Yoga

Being a yoga instructor is far more than just a title to me. I am a witness to the powerful impact the practice has on practitioners and have a passion for showing my students how capable they really are. I find a playful balance in the classes I lead between honoring the history and principles of yoga and keeping class fresh and fun. I offer a place for my students to feel safe in their exploration of self and enjoy providing a sweaty and soothing practice filled with laughter and love.

Being a yoga instructor is about much more than just guiding students through a class and showing them how to get into poses. It's much more to me than just accomplishing the next coolest pose and taking my feet off the ground in fancy arm balances (don't get me wrong, I still love to play with them) Being a yoga instructor is about showing students how to serve themselves. Helping students see that they have an internal story and they need to turn down the volume of the outside world in order to read the story of themselves.  I am so honored each and every time I am welcomed into a classroom to guide my students, regardless if there is one or a hundred.  /  @yoginiinheels

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

I’ve established a habit of checking my email & social media first thing. I hate feeling out of touch with people, so I like to see what I’ve missed.

How would you describe your personal style?

All-embracing. I wouldn’t say I stick to one particular style. I’m mostly in yoga pants and some sort of tank and boots. I’m also obsessed with fancy dresses and high heel shoes and love glamming it up. On casual nights I’m probably best described as ‘Pursuing Boho-Chic’.

Where is your favorite place to go to connect with nature and why?

I love going out on the boat on the lake. There are so many elements involved; Earth, Wind & Water. I feel like I’ve stepped away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life when I’m out there, like I’m on another planet, it’s just so serene.

What activity stirs your creativity most?

Conversations over a bottle of wine. Most people become chatty over wine and when people start talking my wheels start turning, thinking about how I can help the world. Listening to what people are in search of and figuring out creative ways to provide that is my mission.

What makes you feel the most connected with people?

Transparency. I love when people are willing to accept my eagerness to talk about anything and everything and it’s even more amazing when that eagerness is reciprocated. I love honest conversation.

How do you stay healthy?

Oh boy… Healthy for me is a mindset, on a very basic level, a conscious choice. Since I’ve been blessed with great health I can say that works for me. But for others who have been dealt a trickier hand, I know it isn’t that simple. Aside from that, practicing yoga is what it’s all about. A solid asana practice, which for me, can’t be daily due to old injuries, keep me physically able and healthy. Conscious breath work & meditation keep me in tune with my self which I believe keeps me healthy as well. As long as I’m listening to what my body is telling me I can adjust my behavior to support my health, from what I eat, how much sleep I get and the activities I’m involved in.

What does success mean to you?

Waking up in the morning and being thankful. If I can still see the light in life, I consider myself successful.

What is the last thing you do before you go to bed?

Tell my husband I love him. We never miss a moment to tell one another how thankful we are for each other.

What is your must-have Stelari item?

The Yoga Mat Towel - it’s seriously spectacular.
