Autumn detox yoga flow

A simple yoga sequence to give you seasonal perspective

Everything in sight seems to be pumpkin flavored right now! Don't let the spicy, earthy aromas distract you. Autumn is here and it is a powerful time to create more clarity in your life.

Take your cues from nature. The days are getting shorter so make more time for your sleep. Nourish your body with sweet potatoes, squash, quinoa, and yes… pumpkin. Notice the start of mother earth offering cool mornings and breezy evenings. With this season’s change you will find yourself walking through transformative fires. During this process it is important to sweep away the ashes. 

I created a gentle detox practice that is a low key way to release tension in your body and release stress in your mind. Are you having trouble releasing summertime drama or anxiety about what is to come? My friend Sarah Durham Wilson who pens the DO IT GIRL site says:

"Imagine the leaves on a tree. They do not try to hang on! They simply surrender and fall to the earth, where they are born again."

This spoke so potently to me because it is too easy to hold on to old stories. Sometimes, we don't even realize we are doing it! Let this simple practice help you be more like the leaves. Letting go with full trust in the process. 

It is true that twisting is detoxifying. But never forget, the best practice for you to detox is to simply exhale. The exhale breath carries away toxins of all sorts. A little sweat helps move things along and will leave you with a fresh perspective - one that is rooted in awareness and faith. 

Detox yoga flow

  • Grab a block if you can!
  • Knees together, childs pose 10 breaths
  • Kapalabhati (breath of fire) 60 seconds
  • Side body stretch, 3 breaths each side
  • Kneeling twist, 5 breaths each side
  • forearm plank 5 breaths
  • sphinx pose 5 breahts
  • downward dog pose, 5 breaths
  • 3 legged dog, inhale. Knee to chest, exhale. 3 legged dog, inhale. Knee to right tricep, exhale. 3 legged dog inhale. Knee twists to left tricep, exhale. Extend leg to fallen triangle. 5 breaths. Sit down. Fold forward in straddle, 5 breaths.
  • Downward dog pose
  • Shift forward to plank, lower to belly
  • Belly twist, 5 breaths each side
  • Savasana
