"Braided Crown" Tutorial
Step 1: On damp hair, use a volumizing mousse, such as, Aveda's Phomollient Styling Mousse, distribute it evenly throughout hair by combing it through the ends. Rough dry the hair, with a blow dryer and fingers, until completely dry.
Step 2: Section the hair into four parts, starting at the nape. Using a 1 3/4" in. barrel curling Iron, Curl your whole head of hair, making sure the curls are going away from the face. tip: spray each piece of hair with a working hairspray such as, Aveda's Air Control hairspray, this will provide heat protection, extra hold and shine.
Step 3: Part your hair down the center of the top of your head. Starting at the top, left side, of the part, braid the hair around the side out the head, working with the round of the head and complete the braid all the way through the end. use a small rubber band to secure it. Repeat the same braid on the right side of the part now. Now you should have 2 braids on each side of the head.
Step 4: Start creating your crown by tying the two braids at the back of the head and start pinning through the braids. tip: use straight hair pins, not bobby pins. make sure the pins match your hair, that way they disappear in the style. Create the "crest" in the back of the braid by making a rounded design with the ends of the braids, tying and pinning, until eventually you run out of braid. Finish the style by shaking out the curl and spraying a texturizing spray in the hair, such as Aloxxi's Texturizing Spray.
